Can you spare a Rupee???

Rupee

In case you didn’t know, the Indian currency is the Rupee. The attached picture of the $500 Rupee is only worth about ten US dollars.

An interesting fact I learned today is that the average Internet Developer makes about $15,000 US dollars per year in Bangalore. A US based IT developer can make anywhere from $50K – 150K per year and higher. It’s no wonder so many US based companies are outsourcing IT development to India.

Also, the average staff person in a hotel in Bangalore makes about $200 per month (yes $200). Imagine living anywhere in the world making $2,400 per year.

We also visited the Dell facility today. Like many US based companies in Bangalore, Dell is growing at an enormous rate. They will interview about 150,000 job candidates in Banglalore and hire about 7,000 this year for the local operation.

Another interesting tidbit. Dell Bangalore will spend about $8 million dollars this year just on transporting employees via bus and taxi from work to home and back.

Have you seen any of those newfangled living pods that some companies are developing for their employees, sort of like Jetson-style dorms?

We haven’t seen any living pods but have seen quite a few new building and apts under construction. That being said, not nearly as many that are needed.
